TCTI Proposes Collaboration with EFCC to Empower Youths with Digital Skills

The Teachers Continuous Training Institute (TCTI) has extended an invitation to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to join forces in providing digital skills training for youths, including those involved in internet fraud, with the aim of fostering their reintegration as productive members of society.

During a courtesy visit to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Friday, May 17, 2024, Professor Taheed Adedoja, the Director General of TCTI, emphasized the urgent need to address the digital literacy gap among Nigerian youths. He highlighted the Institute's findings from a recent study conducted in Cross River State, revealing alarmingly low levels of digital proficiency among participants.

Expressing concern over the proliferation of internet fraud and its detrimental effects, Adedoja stressed the importance of harnessing the intelligence and potential of these individuals for positive endeavors. He proposed collaborative efforts between TCTI and EFCC to design innovative programs aimed at rehabilitating and empowering young people with high-tech skills.

In response, Ola Olukoyede, the Executive Chairman of EFCC, welcomed the proposal for collaboration while reaffirming the Commission's commitment to combating economic and financial crimes. Olukoyede emphasized the significance of preventive measures, highlighting the need to equip youths with opportunities for gainful employment to deter them from engaging in criminal activities.

He commended TCTI's initiative and expressed eagerness to explore avenues for a mutually beneficial partnership, including the establishment of a Cyber Crime Center to enhance efforts in crime prevention and awareness.

The proposed collaboration between TCTI and EFCC represents a proactive approach to addressing the challenges posed by cybercrime while providing pathways for the socio-economic empowerment of Nigerian youths. Through joint initiatives and innovative strategies, both organizations aim to contribute to the development and safeguarding of the nation's digital landscape.
