IGP Engages IPMAN Leadership in Collaborative Effort Against Oil Theft

The Inspector General of Police, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, NPM, convened a significant meeting on Tuesday, May 14th, 2024, at the Force Headquarters, aimed at combating the rampant issue of oil theft. The gathering saw the participation of prominent members of the Force Management Team alongside key executives from the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), headed by its National President, Alhaji Abubakar Migandi Garima.

The meeting underscored the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and industry stakeholders in addressing the pervasive challenge of oil theft. Recognizing the detrimental impact of this illicit activity on the nation's economy and security, both parties engaged in fruitful discussions to explore areas of partnership and enhance synergy in combating oil theft across the country.

During the deliberations, the IGP reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to tackling oil theft through proactive measures and strategic collaborations with relevant stakeholders. Emphasizing the need for concerted efforts from all stakeholders, the IGP highlighted the role of IPMAN in supporting law enforcement agencies' efforts to curb illegal bunkering activities and safeguard critical oil infrastructure.

In response, the leadership of IPMAN expressed its willingness to collaborate with the police in addressing the root causes of oil theft and implementing effective strategies to deter criminal elements involved in the illicit trade. Alhaji Abubakar Migandi Garima affirmed IPMAN's commitment to promoting lawful practices within the petroleum industry and pledged full cooperation with law enforcement agencies to combat oil theft.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to fostering a strong partnership and implementing concrete actions to curb oil theft effectively.
